American Idol Season 7

I love watching american idol, except for the season when Taylor Hicks won. I couldn't believe America voted for THAT. That was just WRONG. That whole season was simply WASTED.

Anyway, season 7 seems quite alright at this point in time. And this is my favorite contestant: David Archuleta.



He has a really nice singing voice. His normal voice is also charming. He is young and has a bright presence. He is effortless when performing. He's got the whole package. I hope he will win this season.





The rest of the contestants are not memorable at all at this point in time. The female voices are weak and insignificant. I think they will be so much better as they get further into the competition.

lunar new year days

Lunar New Year this year has been full of surprises for me. I don't expect anything much out of it but my uncles, neighbours and the landlord family gave gifts to my parents, which are delicious food. Yum yum. They invited us over for their celebration just now. And oh my, the family is really big. They sang a song together while one of them played the piano. Then they fired the firecracked INSIDE THE HOUSE, haha. That's quite interesting for me. What followed was an in-house sumptuous buffet which was totally delicious.

And surprise, I GOT HONG BAOS. HAHA. I never expect that.

Then they had some fun gambling game which I've never played before. It's like there are 6 drawings on a piece of paper with drawings of a prawn, a crab, a cockerel, a fish and something else I can't remember and they throw 3 dices to find the winner. Something like that. HAHA.

Lunar New Year is quite nice this year =]

CNY recollections

I loved CNY when I was young. Cos I got the red packets XD.
But I gave them all to my parents afterwards (what a good, and stupid boy XD )

As time goes by, I don't really care for CNY. I treat it as a time to be with my family and a time of REST.

My CNY new years in Singapore were pretty cool, esp the 2006 one. I got to celebrate CNY with my roomate's family, a filipino friend and then at my church, and at a friend's church, and then at my hostel.

All the celebrations at those places had Yusheng (thanks GA2 for telling me its name ;). And oh my goodness, I can't eat vegetables for nuts and I due to courtesy, I forced a bite and made it look as if I enjoyed it XD Oh boy, I had to eat Yusheng FIVE TIMES at FIVE DIFFERENT PLACES that year. It was SOOOOO FUN I tell you. HAHA. I spent that new year's eve out at chinatown with a friend. What a lovely evening. We sat at the food place on a street of Chinatown and ordered some Carrot cakes and drinks. And tah dah, at midnight, there were fireworks in the sky. That was really cool.

This year, I spend my CNY in the States, San Jose city to be accurate. We had dinner with the landlord's family. Lovely. And for the first time since 1998, I got to hear the sound of firecrackers again, since firecrackers are not banned in the USA. Cool right =]

8 days to Valentine's Day - Happy New Year

I want to post some songs here and a story to go with them. But somehow, I can't upload music onto my host. So I'll post a youtube video today. HAHA.

Ok. here the story goes.

Last year, the Chinese New Year period was the time when I learned about my O Level result, which was totally shocking to me and things spiraled down since.

The last week before I moved to the NUSH hostel and transfered to ACJC, I sang in this event thing in ACSI Boarding School.

After that song, a teacher told me as I was going back to my room: "Oh Don. I hope this is not the last time you sing here." I was quite speechless and touched by that. I mean despite my silence, I was still noticed and missed to some extent. I felt so thankful for that. Just 2 days after that, I was posted to ACJC.

Well, seems like this Chinese New Year, there's also a BIG change for me. I've migrated to a new country. A drastic change.



and even though it's hard to adapt to adapt, the people I've met in ACJC have taught me to be brave, strong and MOVE ON =]

Change is hard, but change can be good =] I've got a fresh page this 2008 to start writing my life =]




Ok. Back to the song I sang back then in ACSI Boarding School. It was a love song. I chose the song NOT because of the meaning of the song, BUT because Josh Groban sang it really well and I loved that. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.


It's entitled Confession. A Viet junior of mine captured it (i don't know who) and another junior who was also performing in that event posted my clip on youtube. I'm gonna share that with everyone today. HAHAHA.

My singing was lousy in the clip. The video background thing was quite crappy as well. But I just feel like sharing it with you folks =p

My days are pretty much the same: sleeping, eating, laptop, library, websites, blogging, humming weird songs and carols XD...

With the exception of 2 job interviews that I went to. It was an enriching experience.

College is all the way in august, so I'm finding a job right now.

And despite being quiet, I have a strong interest in the field of customer service.

on a totally different note, I saw the MacBook Air last Saturday =] It attracted a huge crowd. Everyone was waiting for their turn to touch it. The size of it is really amazing.But anyway, if I have that kind of money, I'll invest in a normal MacBook, or a MacBook Pro maybe.

11 days to Valentine's day

Indeed, ACJC Choir is LOVE. The experience is just so awesome. Great friends =]

I had an influx of emotions during my last days in Singapore. It all happened too fast. I expected my last rehearsal to be a Saturday. However, it was canceled. Hence, my last day was the Caroling performance at OCBC on a Friday. I was taken aback when I learned the news that Friday morning. What was I supposed to do? What should I say to the choir? I was unprepared. There were so much things to be said, there were so many people I wanted to say thanks to. I was quite shocked with all that happened.

The caroling session quizzed by with much confusion in my mind.

"Oh my goodness oh my goodness after this song I will never be able to sing in this choir again... No pls don't arrive at "Have a holly jolly Christmas"... Make the songs longer... Sing more songs..."

That was the thought in my head. But it had to end anyway. Sigh.

After that, I just talked to the choir during debrief. As expected, I could not convey all that I wanted to say. But you know what, despite my lack of words, I love you all. =]

I spent that Friday afternoon with a new friend, a good friend, and another good friend whom I met in person for the first time XD It was a lovely and memorable day.


That friday, bren and marcus gave me some souvenirs. Among marcus's gifts was a music box, which plays to the tune of "Hey Jude" when you tune it. bren gave me the DVD of the classic musical "Singing in the rain." =]

the science love story

Once upon a time, there was a small piece of ice which lived in a test tube and fell in love with a Bunsen burner.
"Bunsen! my flame! I melt whenever I see you" said the ice.
The Bunsen burner replied :"It's just a phase you're going through, idiot."

But that's not the science love story I want to tell you about.

Ok, somewhere on this planet. There was a scientist called La Luna U, who was a gorgeous girl. Next to her house lived a handsome young man called Derek Dan, who was also a scientist.

One day La Luna U just suddenly turned stupid and asked Derek:
While walking into a lab, how does one know which kind of lab is it?

Derek calmly answered:
-If it's green and wabbles - it's a biology lab.
- If it's stink - it's a chemistry lab
- And if it doesn't work - it's a physics lab...

And then suddenly, La Luna U was so enchanted by Derek's that they went to Las Vegas, cooked a meal, went swimming, planted some trees, killed a snail and then got married.

BUT that is still NOT the love story I want to tell you.

Let me see. Hmm.

A chemist, a biologist, and a mathematician observe the number of people walking in and out of a hotel one morning.

At twelve o'clock A.M. two people walk in, and at one o'clock three people come out.

The biologist says, "They must have reproduced!"
The chemist says, "The building has an unstable charge."
And the mathematician says, "If one more person walks in, the building will be empty!"

Wait, this has nothing to do with the love story I want to tell you about.

oh, anyway, did you hear about the biologist who had twins? She baptized one and kept the other as a control!

Near the house of that biologist, there was a bar.

One day, a small furry animal walked into that bar and ordered a drink. The bartender looked at him and said "Sorry, the occupancy is 6.03x10^23. We cannot serve a mole."

After a while, a neutron walked in and ordered a cocktail. But when she asked the bartender how much she owned, he answered: "For You, NO charge!"

Nearby, two gases were talking to each other and they saw another gas walk by. . .
gas 1: "man that is the IDEAL gas"
gas 2: "eww you pvnrt!"

Suddenly, an underaged Pb walked into the bar and the bartender turned to the gold bouncer and said," Au, get the lead out!"

Pb shouted "DON't YOU DARE COME NEAR ME! Because I have Potassium, Nickel and Iron"
The gold bouncer asked: "A K.Ni.Fe? Oh my goodness I'm SO SCARED"
And everyone in the bar turned into kangaroos and jumped away.

and I don't know why.

hmm.

anyway, two atoms were walking down the street nearby.
Said one atom to the other, "Hey! I think I lost an electron!"
The other said, "Are you sure??"
"Yes, I'm positive!"

oh wait, i need to digress from my love story to remind you this:

There was a student who loved his teacher a lot. One day, this happened in the class:
Teacher: What is the formula for water?
Student: H, I, J, K, L, M, N, O
Teacher: That's not what I taught you.
Student: But you said the formula for water was...H to O.
The teacher choked on his mustache and died on the spot. And the students barium.

Hi everyone. I've decided to make Valentine's Day of 2008 a little more interesting.

Scala & Kolacny Brothers is a Belgian all-girl choir (age ranging from 16 to 26), conducted by the two Kolacny brothers, Stijn & Steven. This is quite an interesting interpretation of Kylie Minogue's 'I Believe In You', which might or might not have inspired that new orchestral version she's been performing live lately. They are more like a show choir, not too much into choral techniques and dynamics, but more into the contemporary sound. They have released 5 albums so far, mostly covers of contemporary songs.
A sweet song I must say.

Emmy Rossum - Rainy Days and Mondays

A song made famous by the legendary Carpenters. This version a cover by Emmy Rossum, who has starred in Phantom of the Opera as Christine. This rendition reminds me greatly of Imogen Heap's style, thickly layered, intense but engaging.
I love this song.
