the strangest dream ever

Well, I dreamed up A PERFORMANCE last night!
It was a totally EXCELLENT performance.

And strangely, the lead is the dance captain in my ex-school. And in real life, I don't even know her personally, except that she has awesome photographic skills.

Anyway, it was so cool to dream about an art performance, cos it's ecstatic and it's totally free.

I loved my dream last night! I hope I will dream of some Corrinne May or Jason Mraz performances.

It's the first dream of its kind that I have.

American Idol - Andrew Lloyd Webber

I can't believe I'm saying this but "DAVID COOK ROCKS!"

He showed a whole different side of him on Tuesday night. He sang "Music of the night," and I was totally surprised by his rendition. I expected to see something rockish, raw and angsty from him. But no, he sticked to the original melancholy, longing ballad version. It was so surprising to see a toned down, vulnerable David Cook with the song, and I loved everyone moment of it. The slight nuances in the songs, the vocal, the style, everything is awesome. It's a bit effeminate though, but heck cares, that made him look pretty on television, for once.

I'm so surprised at this rocker, and in a good way =]

My favorite Carly Smithson sang well =] She seemed effortless with the song Jesus Christ Superstar.

Well, sidestep a bit, I don't really like this musical - Jesus Christ Superstar, the music is not that groundbreaking as that of Phantom of the Opera. I've watched a few editions of Jesus Christ Superstar but I don't think the casts pulled it off well. The whole thing is just a little strange, as I don't like to watch the gospel that way. The only memorable song from the musical is "I don't know how to love him." I think it's for the role of Mary Magdalene.

Back to Carly, she was awesome. She sang well, and it was full of energy. I don't really like the form of her dress but I like the batik texture, it's very Asian =p I LOVE YOU CARLY =]

And I was like "WHAT??????????" when Jason Castro did not know that the legendary hit "MEMORY" is sang by a cat - well, not a real cat but an actress in a role of a cat. It's quite obvious, "Memory" is from the musical "Cats", who else will sing it besides erm... a cat? I love how goofy Jason Castro is. He is cheeky. Anyway, "Cats" is A REALLY PLOTLESS musical. I nearly chewed my hair after I finished watching "Cats" on DVD. It's just a whole bunch of people dressing as cats singing one after another. Well, the only nice part was "Memory" and I watched the version by Ellen Page and she was totally fantastic. Anyway, it's just a really really REALLLY plotless musical.

So please, after you finish watching "Cats", please don't kill yourself.

David Archuleta made a whole new version of "Think of me". I think it was delectable, quite amazing how he transformed it into a whole new contemporary song. But I just love the original version so much that I don't really care about his version.

Mercado was ok, and boring, as usual.
And I don't even want to talk about Brooke White. Maybe it's her turn to leave the show.




This is a REALLY INTERESTING episode of American Idol.

It's boring!

I can't believe it but I think David Cook is good - wait, rephrase - I think he sang well, he got style, although not the style I'm crazy about. Thank goodness he got rid the stupid curly fringe thing on his hair.

David Archuletta's version of When you believe is just alright, even though it got praises from the judges. I don't really get his singing, it's just ok cute school boy kind of thing. And I realize no matter how well or badly he sings, he will still get the most support, and I daresay, he will win this season.

BUT, these are the contestants that I REALLY like and I hope they will be in the top 2: Carly Smithson and Jason Castro.

There's something really honest and REAL about that Carly Smithson girl. I love her voice and her personality. The only downside is that she's still clumsy about her appearance. She has a high fashion appearance but keep clothing herself in granny styles. Anyway, I thought her song was the best among the contestants of the Mariah Carey night.

About Jason Castro, he is unique, his music is unique. Nearly all the songs that he sang on American Idol are slightly different from the original. That's smart since the interpretations of the songs really suit his country, lullaby kind of voice. I was enchanted with his rendition of "Michelle", even though, until now, I still haven't heard the original version by the beatles. He was so smart to choose Hallelujah, the perfect song for his voice. And his version of "Somewhere over the rainbow" was a complete breath of fresh air. It has been so sickening lately to hear that song being recited again and again and again in singing competitions, movie sountracks, advertisements,... Everytime I hear it, I go "Oh no! Not AGAIN!"

And about Kristy, I'm glad she's eliminated. She's IN for WAY TOO LONG.

And about Mercado, Brooke White. I think they will be the next to be eliminated. I don't even know who Mercado is through her singing, and Brooke White's voice is not that good. And she needs to learn how to handle harsh criticism as well, because, obviously, her voice is not that good. Just ditch the piano and focus on the voice please. I think the musicians on the show can do a better job at playing the piano than her.


Contestants that I still want to remain on the show: Michael John, David Hernandez, Danny Noriega. Yes, the guys and the diva guy. I think they sang well, performed well and were eliminated way too soon.

And you know what, Mariah Carey used to sing so well, now her music is more like breathy rubbish than heartbreak gems they used to be.

Actually, without PW, I don't even know anything about The Body Shop except that it has a nice logo and it's near HMV in city hall underlink.

My mirror amused me greatly today. Because, to much of my surprise, my abs are changing, while I don't even exercise. The last time I exercised was for the 2.4 last year, which I failed. And now, suddenly out of the blues, the faint lines of refinement are appearing. I am both amused and thrilled. From now on, I will invest my time in sit-ups. But that's all, I seriously hate jogging and pull-ups or push-up. Always makes me feel dizzy. I'm seriously not a sport person. I don't even visit the gym apart from the PE gym sessions. Both because I hate exercising, I was lethargic, and I could not stand the carpet smell in there.

I only work two days a week. Today is my day off, and already, I miss the workplace. Anyway, it has the nicest iced milk coffee on earth, very fine ingredients for sandwiches and croissants. I really don't like sandwiches but the sandwiches from there bewitched me. I actually finished a whole pate and pork roll sandwich (which was free) during lunch time. That's how good it was!

It is NOT cool to be Don, but it's so cool to be a cashier!
So, I think, when Don is a cashier, it's not so bad, it's quite nice =]

Anyway, actually, true love has NO happy ending, cos true love doesn't have an ending. And this has nothing to do with the previous part of this post.

singing is my passion

My singing voice is degrading. It's very narrow and throaty now. I can't pull off the high notes like I used to be able to. It's really sad. But I guess that doesn't matter cos I probably won't sing for the rest of my life.

I sing like a duck nowadays.

Duck and Don both start with a "D". That's why Disney named his duck "Donald".

hi everyone!

I don't know why but I feel that it's SO SATISFYING to work. Really! I enjoy every single second of my job.

I have practically no free time. It's either greeting customers, light food prep, manning the register, helping the chicken people (who are so nice by the way), or labeling prices... but everything is so fun to do. It's the best feeling I have in such a long time.

Maybe all that feelings are enhanced after nearly four months in confinement and loneliness.

And I am quite thrilled that an extreme introvert like me can still pull off a customer service role, and I think I pull it off quite well actually. yay me =]

It's really cool to meet all sorts of customers. The quite fun (and a little devilish) part is to meet cuties. It's like a treat. Ok, I'll stop talking about that part.

Some customers are SO friendly and environment conscious. One of them told me not to but the plastic fork for him, or some customers refused to use plastic bags. And I served a REALLY nice policeman today. So courteous, so different from the evil, racist one I saw in the Oscar-winning movie "Crash".

On a totally different note, I WAS SO HAPPY that "Crash" won the best picture for OSCAR that year over Brokeback Mountain. Brokeback Mountain was a complete piece of trash. I don't get the whole movie AT ALL. Lousy cinematography, lousy plot, lousy music, and the acting is so dull. It's like watching daniel radcliffe trying to become Harry Potter, but end up being the most emotionless wizard on earth.

Back to my job. There's no male cashier at the place I'm working, ever. Should I be sad about it? I hope the girls are not scared of me. That's all.

Lunch time is quite sad. I miss ACJC food. I love the Chick and Pig stall. And the Milo stall. Those two stalls got me through the days. Anyway, do you know that Milo stall sells Panadol as well. Remember that when you are going to die of a headache and cannot get a pink slip.

Good students will get a pink slip. Bad students will not get a pink slip. So if you think you are the latter one, please remember to buy panadols from the drink stall.

I did not get a pink slip. No one cared.

job and drive

Hi everyone =]

This post, as the title has said, is about my new job and about driving.

Ok, the driving part first. I'm taking driving lessons, and oh gosh, I think it's tough. There are so many things to remember, different kinds of roads require different kind of speeds. Every now and then there are traffic lights, or stop signs. When facing stop signs, we need to know how many of them are there, two or four, and on what sides of the crossroads are the stop signs available,... But the hardest of them all is driving on a FREEWAY. That's the kind of 8 lanes or so super speed highway, where you have to drive at 65 miles/hour. I'm talking about MILES per hour here. That means on a freeway, the speed is at 105 km/h. Just one wrong move and you are DEAD, or your neck broken, or your body parts fall over the place: ears there, eyeballs rolling happily along the freeway, legs here, arms somewhere else... Ok, that's so drama queen, but yah, it's scary to drive on a freeway, esp. for someone who is usually sleepy like me. I can't recall if there's freeway in Singapore but I think the traffic in Singapore is not as complicated as where I'm staying. But I know for a fact that Thailand also has the freeway system, even two-storey freeway.

Driving a car is like playing Need for speed, only that you can die, like really die. GAME OVER, for eternity.

HAHA.

Well, a driving license is necessary in order to get a job here, so I really need to get a driver license soon.

Now about the job part.

It's a really fun job. Well, my job is not just accepting money. There are a lot more, a little bit of food prep and display, greeting customers, getting the food or pickup, labelling the food,...

It's really really really fun. Everytime I go into a deli or a restaurant or a food place, I think ok, I order, the cashier press the screen or the cash register, accept my money, and that's it.

But the reality is really different. LoL. There are a million things on that screen, and it's quite hard to know which one to press and what item is on which menu. It's tougher for me because I DON'T EAT SANDWICHES. So there are a lot to learn about names, and names of veggies. I never eat vegetables in my entire life, except maybe 6 different kinds, including corn, coleslaw (that's still veggies right), some veggie my mom cooks that I really like but don't know the name for 18 years, but that's it...

Is potato a veggie?

And yah, I have a lot of Vietnamese food to learn about, since I don't really eat a lot of stuff made from flour. There are a lot of delicious-looking, colourful pastries and cakes but I don't know the names. A lot to learn about my own tradition actually =p Then comes "CHE", which is translated as TAPIOCA. Gosh, the Vietnamese people LOVE that item and they eat that a lot. But again, since I don't eat that, I had to struggle to figure out what the customers were ordering. I looked at them like they were speaking alien language and they looked at me like I was an alien. My co-workers were laughing when I tell them I don't eat "che". HAHA.

Over all, it's a really fun experience. I work only two days a week, I wish I can work more than that. The customers are cool. Some of them look a bit under the weather, some of them are very polite and nice, but it's nice to serve all of them. I realise that I'm actually suitable for customer service.

And you know what. There were no male cashiers at this place before. I don't know whether I should be happy or sad about this =p Maybe half half. lol

I was trained by two nicest co-workers on earth. One of them has worked for for years, she taught me how to set up and stuff. She's really fun. The other one is also nice, she helped me to practice pressing the screen and experimenting with different kinds of orders, and scooping the correct ingredients for "che" (tapioca).

Handling money is kinda fun. But it needs extreme attention.
